Weather and Snow

Happy first day of winter! It's great to see white out the window this morning. In spite of the fresh blanket of snow in town however, only 2" of snow has fallen at the Geyser Pass Trailhead as of 7:00 a.m. this morning. Snow is forecasted to continue through the day with 4-8" possible. As everyone knows, the new snow has fallen on bare ground so we are still a ways out from putting on the skis, or firing up the sleds, but hopefully this will be a portent of things to come.

The good news is that we don't have any weak, faceted, sugary snow lying on the ground to create an unstable base at this point. The bad news is that there isn't more snow in the immediate future but let's hope a change in the pattern is afoot. I'll keep you posted.

Snow totals at the Geyser Pass Trailhead, (9600')

Wind, temperature, and humidity on Pre Laurel Peak (11,700')
