Headed to the UFO Bowls to look for evidence of the buried surface hoar and near surface facets that formed after Christmas and were preserved before the New Years storm. Looked at an East aspect to see if they existed off of North. Didn't find surface hoar, but NSF's exist underneath a stout wind board that is 5cm thick. Consistent CT18 Q2 on these facets just below the wind crust. Not enough of a slab to energize this layer right now. Also of interest was the thin rime crust on the surface that formed today. Not much measurable snow, decent winds out of the SW. Lot's of garbage in the paths that slid during the 12/13 cycle. Impressed with the variability that everyone is seeing in the snow across the range from Logan on south. Not straightforward out there.
