Surface Hoar is distributed evenly on all but the due South aspects. The crust just below this is more evidence for the radiation recrystallization conspiracy theory that continues to happen with this low sun angle. Of more concern in this pit is the rime crust from 1/6 that is now buried 15-20cm below the surface. It was failing with moderate CT and ECT at Q1. There is depth hoar at the ground, but it gaining strength in may locations. Has me wondering if it will no longer be a player in the big paths in the Provo area. There are however, many places where the pack is not this deep and is mostly rotten snow from top to bottom. It seems like the hazard is approaching Low in the Provo mtns. but things are so variable that I still find myself tiptoeing through any steep slopes.
Snow Profile Image:
Surface Hoar as seen from the top of the pit. It was very warm today even out of the sun, but the hoar is staying alive.
