 Entire snowpack at elevations up to around 9,000' are very rotten from temperature gradient metamorphism.  You are often falling through to the rocks and foot penetration goes right to the ground.  Surface snow is very faceted and weak as well and it sluffs on steep slopes.  With another inch of water weight, it may cause some soft slab avalanches and especially with wind.
