Headed up to take a look at the County Line avalanche path above SR 189 in the Wildwood area.  Dug a hole at 7200' on a NNW aspect, 36 degrees.  Of note were the beautiful 5mm surface hoar crystals and the fact that I kept getting clean Q2 shears 42cm above the ground.  ECTP20, CT21 and CT 23 .  These kept occurring in a layer of faceted snow which made sense, but couldn't figure out why they were so clean and consistent.  Looking at the crystals under a loupe revealed preserved 3mm buried surface hoar that formed after Christmas and were buried in the Provo area hills prior to the New Years storm.  Snow at the ground was moist and gaining strength.  Temperature profile didn't reveal any critical gradient.
