BOTTOM LINE

Danger by aspect and elevation on slopes approaching 35° or steeper.

Danger Rose Tutorial

Mostly LOW avalanche danger, rising to MODERATEwith daytime heating on sunny slopes. Great corn skiing on sunny sides, great powder skiing on the shady sides. Pack the skis with the mountain bike and the climbing gear. Conditions for skiing and riding are good in SE Utah right now.

CURRENT CONDITIONS

Many days of High pressure have left us with that most desirable of SE Utah situations: Powder Skiing on the shady sides on nice re-crystallized powder, and corn skiing on the sunny sides on the melt-freeze crusts. This is what it's all about in the springtime in S. Utah. Enjoy. Oh yeah, don't stay out on those sunny slopes too late, plan to be off them before they melt off and become hazardous due to wet slides.

RECENT ACTIVITY

Wet loose activity, some of it very deep, in Gold Basin.

The Avalanche Danger is generally LOW, but expect the danger level to rise to MODERATEas daytime heating progresses. The underlying snowpack is isothermal in places, meaning that the underlying snowpack is very weak, so when surface crusts melt off, the avalanche danger increases rapidly. Plan your trip wisely, and if you are sinking into wet, unconsolidated snow, it is time to move to a colder aspect.
