The following came in from one of our observers:  "You guys have obviously identified the problem and the daily discussion on your website is right on.  The hard thing for us skiers is standing on top of an 800 foot run of what looks to be perfect powder and turning back."

Yes, it is perfect powder.  No, this is not our typical Wasatch avalanche scene.  So, for those lacking discipline, knowledge, or luck, the following are some pics to stack the odds in your favor. Choose terrain that, upon getting caught and carried in an avalanche, you're less likely to get battered to death.

Looks like a terrible place to ski and get caught in an avalanche.  Remember trauma is responsible for 1/4-1/3 of all avalanche fatalities.

This, occurring two days ago in Little Pine above Little Cottonwood road, would also be a terrible place to take a ride.  Plus you might get run over by a car should you hit the road.

The double dip of crashing trees and going over a cliff.  A bad bet.

More baseball bats.

From Saturday, skiers possibly lost on the backside of Toledo.  Trees, cliffs, more trees - poor choice.

Ah, here we go.  Something like this, with a gentle runout, no trees, or cliffs.  A good visual all the way down the track.  Much better.

Back to the bad habits.  Perhaps a decent track/runout, but now there will be (5?) buried in the slide.  Best to ski/ride one at a time.  Who's gonna do the rescue?  The photographer?

Thanks for the photos : Lindi, Leigh, Jake, Chad, Cowboy, Adam, etc, etc.

Keep it safe out there -
