Travel today was up Mill D over to the Wilson Headwall and Chutes, out Wilson fork into Millcreek. Main thing of note in todays travel was how loose the surface is getting. The new snow from last weeks storm has faceted almost completely on shady N facing slopes and the surface is faceting out on sunny E and W as well. Long running sluffs were common in steeper terrain entraining most of the new snow from our last storm, once they started running the gained speed rapidly and packed a punch. Slipping backwards constantly on the skin trail and while breaking trail is also a good sign of a faceted surface, which was annoyingly common today. I always like to get out to see the condition of the surface before a forecasted storm arrives, and after today I'm thinking that the new snow will not bond well to the faceted surface on the N end of the compass and if we do get a decent shot of snow with some wind avalanches are likely, but I guess all we can do is wait and see.

Photos: skier triggered sluffs in the Wilson Chutes and Headwall.
