Intermittent light snow flurries. No accumulation but we actually recorded .03" of precip at the Bunnells wx st today. Pretty warm temp around the upper 20's at 8000' and warmer below.
Surprisingly really good coverage for this time of year with so little snowfall so far. The Provo mountains picked up significant snow during both the early Oct and Nov storms but only the upper most elevations, N-E aspects, held any remnants of these events before last weekends storm. The only places you can probably find Oct snow would be the upper reaches of Timp above 10,500' especially in areas that had snow that didn't melt over the summer. I have yet to make it into any of these spots to confirm. On the south side of the highway however, I have been up above 10,500 a couple times now ( not on skis ) and the Cascade Mountain area had very little Oct snow. The snow from early Nov has been sitting around for a while now but I'm not feeling like this will be much of a player because the coverage was still very thin.
The storm on Nov 11-13 dropped about 12" of snow and 1.65" H2O. This dense snow is proving to be a good way to lay down a base. With a total snow depth of only about 14"-16" at the mid elevations, I was a bit skeptical about skiing today. I was pleasantly surprised when I realized that even my skinny rock skis were not hitting the ground. The first 8-10cm near the ground are in the early stage of faceting but not too bad so far. Above this, the density increases a bit and 1F hardness snow goes all the way to just below the surface where most places have a mix of wind and temperature crusts. I think we could be on our way to a good solid start as long as we continue to get nice shots of new snow over the next couple weeks.
I havent seen much ski touring activity down here yet because of the thin coverage but, there are some brave souls giving it a shot in the Primrose Cirque area. I also have not seen any signs of avalanches...yet.
