Snow Characteristics

Snow Surface Conditions:
Powder
Faceted Loose
Snow Characteristic Comments:

Some surface hoar found on multiple aspects on todays tour.  Rode on S. facing slopes and NW facing aspects in the trees.  Dug a pit on a NW facing slope at 35 degrees.  ECT 14 at a weak crust layer between 26cm-35cm.  Snow depth in this area reached to 64 cm.  STM, Q2 at top of crust layer (35 cm).  Solar is playing a roll in the snowpack later in the day as a crust was beginning to form on the top layer of the snow.  Did not notice roller ball activity as we did yesterday (west facing slopes above 9500').  Shark fins hidden under the snow in areas - keep the P-tex out.

Red Flags

Red Flag Comments:

Warming up on Skyline.  Crusty layer on top of snowpack beginning to develop in "some" areas later this afternoon.  Found multiple weak layers on top of each other unlike yesterday (different aspect).  New storms will change some things up if added to the mix and may make it a little more interesting.  Protected areas with pretty surface hoar to add some extra sparkle to your day.

Found really nice snow on this low angle S face.  Coverage was better the further west you got on this slope.  Snow began to get crusty later in the day.
