Snow Characteristics

Snow Surface Conditions:
Melt-Freeze Crust
Rain-Rime Crust
Snow Characteristic Comments:

We found nice spring-like, sun-softened snow on upper elevation south facing slopes...  Midday skiing conditions were smooth and supportable...  Other slopes had a variety of conditions, generally influenced by the widespread 12-28 rime-crust, which greatly varies in thickness and strength, is buried by a couple inches of settled snow in many areas and exposed on the surface in others....

Red Flags

Cracking
Collapsing
Red Flag Comments:

We noted a bit of collapsing on lower angled ridge lines.  There were old surface cracks all over the place on south and west facing slopes...  We would also crack the crust, but the cracks were mostly isolated to close to our  proximity.....

Primary Concern Comments:

No evidence of recent natural or triggered avalanche activity....  Seems like things are gradually becoming more stable, but I'm still afraid to get out on steep east and northeast facing slopes....
