Yesterdays 4" of low density snow went a long way to improve the turning conditions.  Very nice skiing in most places.  By mid morning the sunny aspects had been damaged by the sun.

Went around today looking into many bed surfaces and I'm still finding plenty of weak snow left over from last weeks cycle.  It's becoming a little trickier however.  In numerous places we saw a 1F+ layer of facets left over in the bed surface capping much weaker snow below.  This will make it harder to to forecast just how much it will take for repeaters.  The cornices have grown now in places to a size that is now longer kickable.  Photo below is on Claytons Peak.

All day long we experienced no cracking or collapsing until the very end.  We tried to find an unskied slope at mid elevations to compare Brett's Penetrometer to a pit with hand hardnesses.  The slope was just above Silver Lake on a NNE aspect at 9100' called Lower Wagon Wheel.  The main slope is about 38deg and we chose to stay on the flank that was only 32deg.  The slope supported the weight of both of us until I took one ski off and my foot sank through the new slab into the facets below.  When this happened the whole slope collapsed and cracked but only moved down hill about 4".  Just enough to make us check our shorts and be thankful that we didnt get complacent with our slope angles.  Close one.

Also observed an RR crust that formed today on E aspects near 10,000'.  Small spindly facets both above and below the crust.

Also got a look at the slide that was reported today in Toledo Chute.  Looked like just new snow.
