Snow Characteristics Comments
Snow surface was mainly higher density new snow with some areas of breakable wind crust and other places where the strong wind run had scraped the snow back to dirt. Based on the amount of collapsing I have been experiencing throughout the range over the last few days, there was a surprising lack of collapsing where we traveled today. The snowpit ( below) still shows poor structure but the snowpack was not actively cracking or collapsing as we travelled. We saw slides on Red Pine Ridge, and the aftermath of an unintentionally triggered avalanche on Monte Cristo.

Comments
Snowpit shows poor structure. We will have to watch to see if the facets near the ground start to turn the corner in deeper snowpack zones. I don't trust them right now and will be stepping back after each subsequent loading event (new snow or wind) until the facets are showing signs of healing. This will happen sooner (relatively speaking) in deeper snowpack areas.

Today we traveled as though the danger was High. We did not see any new avalanches where we traveled that could have affected our route choices. We were traveling one at at time when crossing steep slopes and avoided traveling up or down any sustained steep terrain, choosing to ski on lower angle (less than) 30° slopes.
