Emblematic of the shallow cracking just off the ridge lines.  Exceedingly weak 'near surface faceted snow' beneath.  Wind certainly had its way in most of the terrain we observed in the UFO Bowls and along the alpine terrain of Timp.

Beginning depth hoar developing beneath the weakening October crust.  This found at roughly 10k in NW facing terrain.

UDOT Avalanche Forecaster Bill Nalli, below.  We're wondering if it's ever going to snow again.  It's a double edged sword - we'll certainly have avalanches failing on a weak faceted snowpack.  Sandboxing (difficult, slippery trail breaking) was plainly evident in the weak surface snow.  Likely the 'slab' will rot out from the bottom up and the top down.  Not the best start to a winter season.
