An inch or two of powder capping a widespread brittle rime crust above around 7500'... Up to 1+cm thick in open areas. More like an eggshell in other areas and much less apparent under trees and in thick forest... In some exposed areas all the fresh snow was blown off the slick and shiny translucent crust....

We didn't find any very deep wind slabs or see any signs of recent wind slab activity... I think the rime crust kept the snow from drifting much during the windy end-of-year storm, and the fresh snow above the crust is just not heavy enough to cause much of a problem.... I did trigger a couple smallish audible collapses in drifted areas...
