I broke lose a small slab on a steep East facing slope in upper Boss canyon. It was only 10 feet wide but ran aways on the steep 45 degree slope. The slab consisted of the new snow and some wind drifted snow. Sluffing was the other concern in this area. it ran far and fast on steep slopes.
I am not sure why everyone is talking about the death crust. We rode slopes of all angles and all aspects with the exception of south. We had great shallow powder riding everywhere. The surface hoar made for some loud powder riding but we never cut through to the death crust other than a couple of turns on the highest, most exposed ridges.
This small wind slab broke loose on a steep North facing slope. This was a small wind slab that also ran far and fast on the surface hoar.
Surface hoar was everywhere, we rode from East, North , and West slopes. Some of it was over 1cm thick and made for some very loud powder riding.
Ther trees were caked with rime but the snow seemed to be less affected.
