Few moderate gusts on the peak
The newest snow has a nice start turning into small grained facets. It is evident under the lens as well as becoming loud under the skis.
I chose this location for a snowpit because it contained a few layers of wind slab where I could test a prototype portable ram through these layers. The layering here wasn't all that representative of the majority of the terrain I traveled through today. What was notable was the ECT test results under the upper wind slab. It broke a few inches below the rain crust in very weak facets which formed mid December.
My party traveled into Mill Creek later in the day. Most of the northerly facing terrain had a snowpack of almost all facets from the surface to the ground. I was able to initiate a "facet-lance" on a steep north facing slope that ran about 300 feet and gouged well into the faceted snow.
Noted some surface hoar formation throughout the day. As usual, the largest was in the drainage bottoms.
