Found great low density powder where the 7 Feb storm snow was less disturbed by winds (some exposed crust up high on the N ¼ and softer wind drifts lee to the N and E near ridge and features). Some radiation loosening was observed with pushalanching possible on S ¼, mid elevation breakovers from midday. The near surface (Radiation Recrystallised) and/ or (Diurnal Recrystallized) Facet and Crust combination was highly variable on the N ½. Did find a very pronounced near surface faceted layer in shady, mid elevation terrain (Mill B Sun Dial) but shovel tests showed little energy (propagation potential) with the current lack of an overlying slab. Same old story with the more deeply buried persistent layer(s). The 8 Jan Surface Hoar was painfully obvious and intact in Upper Mineral and the high energy test results made me feel alive but really gave the shivers (does anyone have a cigarette?)
