Loud skiing, faceted surface snow was highly reactive especially on northern facing terrain towards the creek. I was able to get sloughs to break on rollovers and pick up speed and slough till the slope angle subsided. Very slick skin track on the ascent from previously formed surface hoar and near surface faceting. We observed huge cavity hoar under rocks and where previous skiers had punched through with their poles.
Red Flags
Red Flag Comments:
Surface hoar that was buried on 1.8.11, and recent deposits of SH on top of newest snow. From results of the Shovel Tilt Test (burp the baby) we saw Q1 (sudden planar) x2. The pictures that Austin captured of the surface hoar collapsing are pretty cool.
