Comments
I could see evidence of more than a dozen sizable wet avalanches, including all the normal paths from Mendon Peak south to Pleasant View Point. The avalanches looked recent but may have occurred anytime in the last several days. Most of the loose wet avalanches looked to have been initiated by cornice falls, with the largest ones around 200' wide and running around 1250 vrt'. There was also a wind slab or wet slab avalanche apparent in Bird Canyon near the summit of Mendon Peak.
Comments
We went up into Hell Canyon on May 2 and checked out a few of these natural avalanches. All three had been triggered by large cornice falls, and there were still big cornice's overhanging the big slopes.
