Forecast for the Skyline Area Mountains

In general the avalanche danger is LOW this weekend.
In general the avalanche danger is LOW this weekend.
A mild, windy, southwest flow helped usher clouds into the region last night and man, it's warm this morning. Overnight lows only bottomed out in the mid to upper 30's and southwest winds are blowing 15-25 mph along the summit.
Steve Cote's snowstake says it all. There's really not that much snow on the Skyline and riding and turning options are limited to rock-free grassy meadows and roads.
A couple small slides from last weekends storm.
You'd really have to go out of your way to trigger an avalanche today, but the Skyline is a big place and I bet a pocket or two lurks in steep, rocky, upper elevation terrain facing the north half of the compass.
Remember- there's not much snow and triggering a slide will immediately ruin your day, taking you for a nasty ride through rocks and stumps barely hidden underneath the shallow snowpack, resulting in a season ending injury.
It'll be warm and windy, with increasing clouds and a chance for scattered snow showers tonight as a weak cold front slides through the region. High temperatures today reach into the mid 40's and southwest winds blow 15-30 mph along the high peaks. Snow showers are on tap for Sunday with the chance for a stronger system midweek.
